I’ve decided to teach the last two classes in my pajamas and with bed hair. I will be available to answer your questions online:
- hiramys@gmail.com - Google Talk
- hiramys@hotmail.com - MSN Messenger
- hiramys2003@yahoo.com - Yahoo Messenger
- Comments posted in your blog will immediately appear in my inbox. Make sure your e-mail is correct and I will answer you.
Good luck finishing your Electronic Portfolio Websites. As soon as you are finished, burn the portfolio folder to a CD-RW and give it to me. Do NOT leave it anywhere or with anyone else!! I need to revise and make sure everything works before you are officially done with the class.

Following what we did during the last two classes you are now expected to align the PR standards, the ISTE Technnology Standards, the ISTE Profiles, the LoTI Framework to a complete lesson plan. Since this course does not cover learning how to create a lesson plan, you should look for one someone has published. After you make your selection, you will need to make some changes and modifications to make the plan your own. For each activity the students will be expected to complete there needs to be an alignment with the standards. Use a table format with 5 columns to do the alignment and copy onto it only the standard number and the specific expected behavior letter.
Once the lesson plan is aligned, and before it’s presented, you will provide me with a digital copy I will publish on the blog for the whole class to see and comment on. On Thursday, May 7, 2009 everyone will informally present the lesson plan and explain what changes he/she did to the original and why as well as how the activities align with the standards.
Note: Since many of you were absent to today’s class, I decided to have you post your homework as a comment to this blog entry. You were supposed to choose an activity from a lesson plan and align it to all the previously mentioned documents. Use the table format with 5 columns and copy/paste it onto the comments at the end of this.

You will be required to know and be able to effectively use the documents I’m placing here. If you work well with electronic formats, then you should just save them to you pen drives. On the other hand, some people require paper format to facilitate reading and process information. In that case, I suggest you print them and bring the copies with you to class from now on.

During class you will present your group movies. However, I need to see the movie before you present it. Please send it to me at hiramys@gmail.com as soon as you can.
Also, as previously mentioned English Week 2009 concludes with a Multimedia Showcase in the Student Center Conference Room (next to Cafeteria) from 10:30-1:00 pm. During this activity English Majors present work they have created for their TEED courses.
You will be expected to attend and take notes so we can discuss what you liked, what you want to learn how to do, and any other comments you may have about the activity in our next class.

The next thing we are going to study are the similarities and differences between spreadsheets and databases. I want you to answer the following questions as comments on this post:
- What is a database?
- What kind of information is better managed in a database?
- How are databases and spreadsheets similar or different?
- Are there free alternatives to using Excel and Access 2007 to create effective spreadsheets and/or databases for classroom use? Mention the names and where they can be found.
- If you were to create a database for classroom use, what information would you store in it? Why?

Good morning students:
Today I want you to start exploring spreadsheets. Answer the following questions as a comment to this blog entry:
- What are spreadsheets used for?
- Why are they used to store and organize data?
- What kind of data is most effectively managed in spreadsheets?
Go to Microsoft Online and look for the Excel tutorials if you don’t already know how to use the program.
Your task:
Create a simple spreadsheet for each one of the following purposes: grade book, inventory of materials, and financial report or budget.
I’m at home waiting for your comments and your e-mails with the 3 spreadsheets you need to create. I can also answer questions through the comments or through email: hiramys@gmail.com

Our next explorations will require that you bring 5-10 digital pictures and a song in digital format. These need to be saved in your pendrive or other media and have to be your property, not ripped from copyrighted material or downloaded illegally off the internet.
The software we are learning is Photo Story 3, a free download from microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/PhotoStory/default.mspx
The idea is that you will tell a digital story or movie using the pictures and the song(s). However, the first step is to create a storyboard where you plan your organization of the pictures, any narration or captions you want to add, etc. in Word 2007.
As homework, think of the story you want to tell and start on the storyboard (draft). The download site for Photo Story 3 provides you with tutorials and examples of what others have done before you to help you come up with ideas.
